Understanding the Siddur

Learn How to Pray

Many of us pray often, but still feel foreign to the words we are saying. Prayer is likened to Jacob’s ladder. Just as the ladder had its feet on the ground and its head in heaven, prayer is supposed to be an experience that takes us out of the mundane grind of life and allows our souls to soar.

We first need to understand the Siddur. Who is the author? Why were these parts chosen to be included? How is this still meaningful for me today? How can I personalize an institutionalized amida?
